Watch YouTube Ad-Free on Android Without Paying for Premium (2026)

YouTube Premium's individual plan now costs $13.99/month in the US — up from $11.99 before the 2025 price increase. That is nearly $168 per year for a service whose core value proposition, for most users, is removing ads from a platform that is otherwise free.

The timing is notable. YouTube simultaneously pushed harder against ad blockers on the web, displaying interstitial warnings and degrading playback quality for users who tried to block ads in the browser. The message was clear: pay, or watch ads everywhere. On Android, there is no browser extension workaround — the official app serves ads directly through its own player, making the web debate irrelevant for mobile users.

What you're actually paying for: For most users, the $13.99/month buys three things — no ads, background play, and offline downloads. If you don't use YouTube Music (which requires Premium for its own background play) and don't need offline downloads, you are essentially paying for ad removal and screen-off listening on mobile.

The YouTube Premium MOD APK removes advertising at the player level, not just in the interface. Pre-roll ads (the ones before a video starts), mid-roll ads (inserted partway through longer videos), and in-app banner ads are not served at all. There is no mute-and-wait — the video simply starts.

In November 2021, YouTube removed the public dislike count from all videos, citing creator well-being. The like button remained visible; the dislike button stayed but now shows nothing. The practical effect is that users lost the fastest signal for identifying low-quality tutorials, misleading videos, and broken guides — a 10-second glance at a like/dislike ratio that used to tell you whether a tutorial actually worked.

Return YouTube Dislike restores those counts using a combination of archived data collected before the removal and an ongoing estimation model based on extension users who continue submitting dislike interactions. 1. First install microG Services from MODDROID. microG acts as an alternative to Google Play Services and is required for Google account login on this MOD build.
2. Go to Settings → Security (or Settings → Apps → Special app access → Install unknown apps on Android 8+) and allow installation from your browser or file manager.
3. Download the YouTube Premium MOD APK and tap the downloaded file to install.
4. Open YouTube, sign in through microG, then configure SponsorBlock categories, playback speed, and theme in Settings.

If you prefer not to sign in

You can skip microG and use the app without a Google account. Ad-free playback, background play, SponsorBlock, Return YouTube Dislike, and all playback controls work without being signed in. Watch history, subscriptions, and recommendations will not sync to your account.

Uninstall the official YouTube app first if it was installed via the Play Store — both cannot be installed simultaneously since they share the same package ID. The MOD APK replaces the official app completely.

• Offline downloads — Downloading videos for offline viewing requires a genuine YouTube Premium account. The MOD APK does not support offline downloads.
